Confessions of a Fat Girl Promo

Release date: August 4th 2015

Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads
Smart and ambitious Season Minett was homeschooled, got accepted into college at 16, graduated with a B.A. in English at 20, got a job at a prestigious magazine at 21, and isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. Twenty-two-year-old Season has it made and everyone knows it. Except Season herself.

People can gush over her all day long, but Season knows they’re just being nice. In reality, she’s accomplished nothing. She doesn’t work hard enough, can’t get her book published, and worst of all at 5’6, 180 pounds with a thirty-two inch waist, a forty-four inch hip, and arms too big for her body, she’s fat and ugly. She's such a disappointment that after her mother divorced Season's dad, she went to live with her new, younger boyfriend and left Season to mother the rest of her siblings. So Season is quite bewildered when the guy she sees every weekend at the bookstore shows serious interest in her. And she ends up liking him. A lot.

Season's not naive enough to think love will solve all her problems though. In fact, love seems to be making everything worse because her food obsession is growing more and more out of her control. But that's impossible. There's nothing wrong with counting calories and wanting to be thin. There's nothing wrong with trying to be as perfect as everyone thinks she is. A fat girl can't develop an eating disorder, let alone have one. Right?

Review of Escape from Witchwood Hollow

I read Escape from Witchwood Hollow by Jordan ElizabethMierek in exchange for an honest review

Everyone in Arnn - a small farming town with more legends than residents - knows the story of Witchwood Hollow: if you venture into the whispering forest, the witch will trap your soul among the shadowed trees.

After losing her parents in a horrific terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, fifteen-year-old Honoria and her older brother escape New York City to Arnn. In the lure of that perpetual darkness, Honoria finds hope, when she should be afraid.

Perhaps the witch can reunite her with her lost parents. Awakening the witch, however, brings more than salvation from mourning, for Honoria discovers a past of missing children and broken promises.

To save the citizens of Arnn from becoming the witch’s next victims, she must find the truth behind the woman’s madness.

How deep into Witchwood Hollow does Honoria dare venture?

Your Midweek Update for 08/19/15

Sandra was born on August 21st 1996. She arrived right on time. I remember sitting outside the room, the moment my sister’s cries turned to laughter. She was so perfect, so tiny – for such massive lungs. Even then, she wasn’t afraid to tell everyone what she was feeling. And much too clever for her own good.

She would be 19 on Friday; attending University in less than a month. Every university she applied for, she was accepted into, but because of me she opted to stay in the city. She wanted to stay close to me – to keep our family together.

My sister called me last week. No one had told her but she found a news article discussing the on-going investigation. The police have no leads. They talked to all the friends and family and random associates they could find but there was never anything linking her and Daniel together. They’ve told me and James that it was probably random and they have little hope of finding the killer.

They’ll find his body. In pieces.

Daniel hasn’t spoken to anyone since the funeral. He stopped going to work, Charlotte has officially moved in with her brother, and he hasn’t been to the house since Jason punched him.

Charlotte’s alive, by the way. She called the day before the funeral and expressed her condolences. Said she couldn’t risk coming into town but I was welcome to visit her any time. If I needed to get away.

Everyone’s calling, no one will come to me in person. I went back to work on Monday and no one would talk to me. They all walked past my desk with sympathetic eyes like I couldn’t see them staring. Heather still hasn’t said a word to me. It’s driving me crazy. Because the quieter they are, the more time I have to think about Sandra and Daniel and what I want to do to that bastard.

It’s going to be beautiful.

She would have been an incredible woman; smart, and fast, and yes, deadly. But that can’t happen anymore because Daniel took her away from me.

I don’t think I’ll be able to post next week. I’m going to see an old friend for the last time. I’ll let you know how it goes.

As always, dear readers,

Stay Safe

Review of Where Shadows Lie

I read Where Shadows Lie by Tialla Rising for the Tour hosted by Itching For Books and in all honesty, that’s the only reason I read this book.

His dark past haunts him. His new life taunts him.

After twenty years in the gangs and a hefty prison sentence, an early release gives Shawn the opportunity to turn his life around.

But that isn’t so easy when gangs are involved.

Only a year into his fresh start, the gang catches on and makes Shawn’s life miserable. After all, once a gang member, always a gang member. His very blood belongs to them.

Threats become promises. Whispers become actions. Words become bullets. He must fight – not only for his life, but to save his honor, prove his integrity, and protect the woman he loves.

An ember of hope glows in the darkness, strengthening his resolve. Will her support and his determination be enough to dispel the shadows of his past?

A story of discovery and faith, love and perseverance.

Your Midweek Update for 08/12/15

The funeral was perfect. James took care of all the arrangements. He’s good at that. I kept it together all day which wasn’t easy when I met her friends. Some of them barely shed a tear as they greeted my family. They were so…unfeeling. I don’t know how she put up with them.  She was always a girl who felt deeply. When she was six years old we watched a spider devour a butterfly it had caught in our backyard. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but I found her crying in the dryer later that day.

She said: “I know he’s just doing his job but why does he have to hurt people?” She was talking about the spider. I think.

Maybe she knew a long time ago; what I am.

It was Daniel.

He had the audacity to come to my daughter’s funeral. He shook my husband’s hand, hugged my son, and looked in my eyes when he told me that it was her fault. If only she had followed the rules. Jason punched him; it was awesome.

Daniel gets no second chances. No more warnings. I am going to make him suffer. He will bleed for days before the life leaves his body. And then I’m going to feed him to the police dogs.

My baby.

She’s…

I turn 38 today. It's not a special number but all that's been running through my mind today is:

I was supposed to be first. I never thought I would bury my children...

For god’s sake,

Stay Safe

Review of Sacrifice of Greatest Price

Sacrifice of Greatest Price is the fourth and final book in the Between series by Cyndi Tefft. You will recognize her from my reviews of books one, two, and three, as well as my first and second interviews, and the time she and I attended RT2014 together.

Today, I’m reviewing Between #4 with a heavy heart, knowing that this series has come to a close. Aiden and Lindsey (our protagonists) have been very close to my heart for many years now and this story brings their lives to a close. I shall endeavor to say goodbye to two dear friends.

Three in one, forward and back
Here and gone, to deepest black
Silver blooms, swollen with child
Birth crimson globes, untethered wild
Life meets death where the sun meets the sea
Blood sacrifice, for you and for me.

It has all come down to this.

A prophecy, passed down through generations of MacRaes, tells of a blood sacrifice. A simple stone placed in an ancient dagger unleashes an army of hell transporters with glowing red eyes who have now come to exact that price.

In the epic finale of the Between series, Aiden and Lindsey will be tested in ways they could never have imagined. Visions of the past, from thousands of years ago when the Broch of Gurness in Orkney was whole, provide more questions than answers. But every secret will be revealed as the MacKinnons and MacRaes join forces to fight a battle they cannot hope to win.

Your Mid-Week Update for 08/05/15

Sandra didn’t come home from work on Thursday.  I called her cell and it went straight to voicemail. I kept calling but I never got an answer. James wouldn’t let me call the police until Friday. “They won’t take you seriously until 24 hours have past”, he said. So we called, and they looked but they couldn’t find her. We couldn’t find her. I…

Jason called everyone he knew from her social circle, her work, her teachers, nothing.

Sunday night I was sitting in the tent waiting for the search party when I heard someone shouting. They found her body; she had been strangled and then dragged through the woods. Some sort of animal had eaten parts of her flesh and taken three of her fingers.

My baby girl is dead. She’s gone.
