The Fair Folk are the stuff of myth. Stories of monsters and old magicks. But all myths carry a grain of truth. That truth is that remnants of this ancient power live on in the blood of their descendants.

When Tannin’s grandfather dies, he leaves her with a mountain of trouble. Between cryptic journals that warn of unknown foes lying in wait and a crippling debt owed to a cruel and formidable local Laird, Tannin is thrown into a cut-throat world where she is perilously out of her depth.

But her problems have only just begun. Secrets lurk in Tannin’s bloodstream – secrets not even she is aware of. And they want out.

A scheming princess with the offer of an alliance. A secret society with murderous intentions. A dark past that refuses to stay buried. Tannin’s life will never be the same.

Book Trailer:

Top 5 Favourite Scenes and Why (contains spoilers)

These are just in chronological order not in order of preference. I couldn’t rank them and there are loads of other scenes that deserve an honorable mention such as Ava and Tannin sparring, basically every Flint and Tannin interaction and Attilo being domestic.

1. Apologtea

This was a really sweet chapter in my opinion and is all about Ava’s development and how much she’s not actually in as much control as she likes everyone to believe. She’s come to care for Tannin a lot and comes to the realisation that she really doesn’t want to be without her. Also funny moments and puns.

2. Answers

I really enjoy the structure of this chapter and how we get to see the first signs of Tannin’s past and of course the reveal of what she actually is. I loved writing this part and getting all the senses involved to show how overwhelming it is for her. Also funny moments.

3. Bedside Manners

If you’ve read the book then you’ll know exactly why this is in the top 5. This is the scene where Tannin and Ava’s attraction for each other gets the better of them in the aftermath of a life and death situation. Its been building for a while and they both show their vulnerability here and give in to their desires. Its also great to see Tannin especially finally having a good time for once.

4. A Swing and a Miss

The reason I like this whole chapter so much is that it is peak drama. Things truly cannot get worse at this point but my favourite thing about it is that Tannin saves herself. There’s no one coming to her rescue and if she doesn’t get herself out of it, it truly is the end. I liked writing the vivid descriptions in this chapter and who doesn’t love a nice bit of gruesome violence?

5. Tactful Negotiations

This was just all round fun to write and to read back. Tannin is just super stressed and done with it all and truly cannot control her emotions anymore and dammit she doesn’t want to. You can fuck off. You can fuck off. And you can fuck off. She makes a wonderful big mess and its glorious.
