COMMUNICATION IS SEXY!

Spice. Steam. Smut. Whatever you want to call it, let’s face it, we love it. It makes our toes curl and our spines tingle. There’s nothing like the feeling of the corners of our mouths quirking upward into a smile as the tension builds and that moment of release presents itself on the page. We pick up the pace, we hold our breath, and our fingers turn the pages as quickly as the eyes can keep up.

It’s that moment of thrill that motivates me to write erotic romance. That singular moment when two characters finally come together intimately, in the flesh. That moment when our protagonists join as one, signifying their love for one another.

For me, sex is something I share with a person. It’s opening myself up to another by putting myself in a vulnerable position. It’s a symbol of trust. If I want to have mind-blowing sex, open communication is key. Sharing those intimate, deep-down thoughts with another person can be terrifying, but I won’t get what I want out of the encounter if I don’t ask for it.

Because of how much I value open communication, every single one of my couples in books utilizes it. They tell each other what they want. They let the other know of any desires they might have. They check in with each other, care for each other, and ensure the other is having a good time. I call it Cozy Spice. Wholesome stories with some naughty bits.

In The Witch and the Dreamwalker, both Vivian and Xavier are upfront about their needs and expectations, both inside and outside of the bedroom. They both have their kinks and preferences; they both have their own lifestyles and goals. They come together in a healthy and communicative way, all the while fighting off a psychic vampire bent on taking over the company–as one does.

Communication is sexy. I mean, wouldn’t you want someone to growl “I can’t hear a nod” in your ear?
