An awkward wizard. An aspiring ballerina. And a dark god with a wicked vendetta.

Clyde Blitzkurr is devastated. Rejected by every reputable magic academy in the realm, this seventeen-year-old aspiring wizard resolves to make his sister’s dream come true. But things take a turn when a demon tries to kill him.

Aylee Blitzkurr’s deepest desire is at hand. Accepted to the most prestigious dance academy, this sixteen-year-old ballerina is a breath away from becoming a principal dancer. But when her brother’s life is threatened, and ghosts start leaving cryptic messages, fighting for Clyde’s wellbeing takes precedence.

The siblings begin to uncover dangerous secrets connecting them to a vengeful god. Neither is safe. Clyde must grasp the untapped power he possesses. Aylee must discover the courage to face her darkest fears. If they do not, they will lose more than their lives … they will miss their destiny. And the realms are counting on them.

Phantom of the Opera meets Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Angel in this young adult epic fantasy!

Escape to a world imbued with magic and the paranormal. Find mermaids, demons, dragon shifters, elves, wizards, sorcery, and a healthy dose of fantastical ballet. This exciting book for teens is for boys, girls, and everyone in between.

ABBY ARTHUR'S TOP 5 FAVOURITE SCENES IN THE FIRST DARK GODDESS

O my gods, this is a fun one! (I mean what writer doesn’t have favorite scenes?)

1) I LOVE the scene in chapter 14 when Clyde, our awkward wizard, tries his hand at a spell that goes wrong. Why do I love this scene? Because Clyde royally messes up … and gets chased by a flaming broom stick. Therefore, the scene does a really good job of showing how Clyde has much to learn, and in turn, makes the end—when he finally does something right—that much more rewarding.

2) Next up is chapter 17, when Aylee has her first dance with the young samurai-turned ballet dancer, Nori. As new recruits to the opera house, they are showing off their skills to the owner. The dance is a duet called “The Dance of the Warrior,” and involves a sword. Not a wooden one, but Nori’s very real Katana. There's also ghoulish figures created with magic to go along with the dance, which Nori cuts down with his sword. All the while, Aylee does the choreography, and, because both are so talented, she doesn’t fall on Nori’s blade. However, that doesn’t take away the fact she didn’t want to do the dance with Nori. After all, it’s a dance she was afraid of… so she slaps him once the music ends. (Do I sense a blooming relationship? ๐Ÿ˜‚)

3) Another scene I really like is a grouping of scenes… It’s every time Clyde’s grimoire, Gelrรก, appears. The grimoire has this ability to use the ink on his pages to draw pictures. And he tends to do so often … especially when Clyde is trying to learn new spells. Gelrรก is quite cheeky, and has a hilarious opinion about everything. He also hates anyone that isn’t Clyde. (I often think of him like an angry cat).

4) in Chapter 34, Aylee goes on a date! And it’s so romantic (Without being TOO much… this is epic fantasy after all! ❤️) Her date takes her to buy new clothes (because she’s poor), and the outfit has gears on it that help cool her down. (Yes GEARS, like cogs ๐Ÿ˜Š … there’s a steampunky undertone to this book, which we technically call Gaslamp in the fantasy genre. ⚔️ ๐Ÿ–ค⚔️)

5) Finally, and this could just be my strange sense of humor, but in chapter 37, all hell breaks loose, and I just love it! Evil is attacking, someone’s arm gets ripped off, and one of the healers is in a rush to save him, and yet Nori—the amazing guy that he is—goes to meditate on a coffee table in the middle of the room. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ (It has a purpose, I promise!)
