This story is available in two adaptations. The original, Mages & Mates, is a romance filled with encounters involving dragon shape-shifters. This story stars a very lust-filled mage and a demon who seems to marry one of every species on this world, collecting a harem of men and women spouses.
Banished from Earth, a six-headed demon god adjusts to a
world where he is bound by no rules and where even the dead have magic he can
consume and control.
Rojo Siete Φωτιά
The red dragon full of chaos fire magic must serve the human mages for seventy
years.
Leslie Μάγος
Orphaned human child of slaves, sold to the Magesterium to train as a mage, and
paired with a fire dragon.
Ruven Σκιά
Shadow assassin elf turned tracker with a hellhound who eats the undead.
Heista Νεκρός
An undead priest risen and controlled by the most powerful necromancer
Tiamat is a demon god from Earth now banished to a world full of magic and
dragon. Lucky for him, his dragon form is a six-headed dragon. The magic here
is not like on Earth, it comes from dragons, not from souls.
To be a god on this world, he must learn how to harness the power of the
dragons. So, pretending to be less than he is, he joins the Magesterium to
train as a mage. He masters this ability easily but is paired with a dragon who
was once a human. Her dragon mate has died and if he doesn’t pair with her, the
other dragons will kill her.
Her magic is weak, but Tiamat can fix that. He can show this world that the
dragons banished from their clans can find a new purpose, just like him. Until
his past catches up and demons from Earth arrive to take a soul from Tiamat
that they feel is theirs. Turns out, necromancy is easy to do on this world and
the other demons have no qualms about using it.
To defeat the other demons, Tiamat must give up the new life he’s found, and
become the god he was destined to be.

EXCLUSIVE DELETED SCENE
“You were too brash,” Rojo Siete said. He climbed into a sling hung from the ceiling, fitting into it perfectly.
Leslie looked at the round room. They were in one of the towers, the very top. It wasn’t very big, and the shelves were lined with small glass containers. And dust, lots of dust.
“No one has touched this room since the last mage,” Leslie observed. He picked up one of the bottles. “What happened to the last mage assigned here?”
“I might know if we’d remained downstairs long enough for me to read some minds.”
“We aren’t here to socialize or make friends,” Leslie said. “We are here to work.”
“This isn’t work, this is your life. There is no final tasker that graduates you to something better. We live here, this is—”
A sharp knock came on the door before it was pushed open. The king stepped in, two guards behind him.
“You will attend the party downstairs,” the king said.
He was short, although most people were short when compared to Leslie. And he looked even younger than Leslie was. Freckles covered his cheeks, and his voice was high pitched, like he hadn’t finished puberty. The golden crown on his head even looked too big for him. So did the fancy velvet clothes he wore.
“We are—” Leslie began.
“You will attend!” His face reddened as he shouted it, like he were actually a toddler king not a teen.
“Don’t,” the dragon warned, not at all put off by the king, but he knew Leslie was.
“You want us at your party? So, you can display us for your court? Fine.” The two red tattoos on the underside of Leslie’s wrist flashed red, they were his teleportation spell. The five of them teleported back to the dining hall, where servers were just finishing placing everyone’s meals on the tables.
“You want us to entertain your people, like a court jester?” Leslie asked. More of his tattoos glowed in rapid succession. He’d removed his cloak, so his arms were visible, the ink glowing like he were attending a rave. Smoke filled the room, and in it animals appeared, fierce ones. Lions, tigers, bears, all illusions, swiped and roared at the attendees. Fireworks erupted above them, flowers bloomed on the tables, and in an epic ending, ten dragons flew overhead, chasing each other like phantoms.
“Are you entertained, my king?” Leslie asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
The king looked redder than ever, like he might explode.
“Or shall I turn your court into a circus?” Leslie asked, leaning in closer to the king and nearly touching his nose. He didn’t wait for an answer, and teleported himself and Rojo Siete back to their quarters.
“And don’t you dare try to chastise me for that,” Leslie said. He collapsed on the cot in the room and stared at the ceiling. Too frustrated to work on tidying the place.
“If you want to spend our time here in isolation, being a hermit, far be it from me to stop you. But being a king can be as lonely as a mage. There’s no rule saying we can’t socialize with the people here and be their friends.”
“You, of all people or dragons, actually want that?” Leslie sat up and looked at the dragon as he swung in the sling. “Are you saying you’ve actually attended banquets and been civil?”
“Yes.” He draped his limbs over the side of the sling. “I’m not saying I socialized, but I attended. It can be educational. Having fun isn’t a bad thing.”
Leslie realized he didn’t know what fun was. He’d never hung out with anyone for the sake of enjoying their company. No one had ever wanted him around.
“You’re assuming he wants you around to show you off and treat you like a freak. But he hasn’t done a single thing to suggest that. He was welcoming us.”
Leslie laid back down. He would think about it. But he was not going back down there. Not now. He was used to isolation. Trying to be… friendly, was a concept he wasn’t ready to try.

Nina
Schluntz is a native to rural Nebraska. In her youth, she often wrote short
stories to entertain her friends. Those ideas evolved into the novels she
creates today.
Her husband continues to ensure her stories maintain a touch of realism as she
delves into the science fiction and fantasy realm. Their three cats are always
willing to stay up late to provide inspiration, whether it is a howl from the
stray born in the backyard or an encouraging bite from the so called “calming
kitten.”
