TOP 5 FAVORITE BOOKS - Jens Boele
Alright, let's chat about my favorite books, no particular order – just diving in.
Starting off with the King, because, well, it's Stephen King. "Salem's Lot" hit me when I was around 14, and man, it scared the living daylights out of me. That moment when Matt Burke realizes there's a vampire in his house? I was legit terrified under my blanket with a flashlight in hand. And the whole Marsten Mansion scene with young Ben Mears? Hell no! The junkyard? I could go on forever. Watched every movie, listened to all the audiobooks. Excited for the new movie dropping in 2024.
"Christine" is another King gem. What makes it great is that you can read it at any age and still connect with it. I read it at 20, and Arnie Cunningham brought back memories of some kid in my class. You'll find an Arnie in every school, always dealing with the same struggles. Christine symbolizes unfulfilled desires that push people to cross any boundary.
Now, let's dip into extreme horror with Richard Laymon and Jack Ketchum. "The Woods are Dark" and "Off Season" – both survival stories with heaps of violence and gore. Ketchum's "Off Season"? Read it almost in a day, stayed up all night hooked. Laymon's backwood horror has a more sexual side to the violence – yeah, it's both disgusting and thrilling. Lander Dill in Laymon's story stood out, and without spoilers, there's a similar vibe in "Urbex Predator."
Closing with a newer one – "Gone to see the River Man" by Kristopher Triana. A serial killer fangirl, a remote cabin quest, a handicapped sister, and delivering a key to the River Man. What could go wrong? Man, this book is pure evil. Not gonna spoil it, but it left me with a seriously bad vibe. Is it good, though? Oh yes, it's a total page-turner.
